Selene, the Psychic reads LIPS

Selene the psychic reads lips

This evening I ventured out “Miami Style” with my Mom (who is visiting from NYC) to an Ocean Drive Magazine beauty event at the Four Seasons. Women gathered around the poolside while having free personal care services including: massages, eyebrow wax, Shiseido make overs, all the while also enjoying the liquor sponsor for the evening, PAMA, pomegranate Liquor. After exploring the array of beauty pavilions including the one hosted by the owner of the Wax Studio I support and religiously frequent for my monthly Brazilian torture,

I came across Selene, the Psychic.

Selene was sitting at a table reading the palms and get this, the lip prints of women. Of course my mom and I watched in excitement while we impatiently waited for our reading and WOW what an fabulous 7 min reading it was.

Wondering what the process was for the reading?

Latinos going green

Last night I watched my favorite Sundance Channel weekly show Big Ideas for a Small Planet and loved the segment on the Miami based company Ecoist, who are the Latino creators of those great eco friendly bags and accessories made out of candy wrappers and movie posters. Ecoist, founded by two Mexican brothers, merge design with social and environmental consciousness to provide stylish, functional, and durable products. All of their products are made from recycled, organic, or earth-friendly materials, and are manufactured through a network of fair trade partnerships around the world. The term “Ecoist” is defined by them as “an individual that lives a modern, eco-minded lifestyle”. Hay that’s me and that describes many Latinos. I was so excited about this story i decided to share it with you all.

The Ball, a short film from Mozambique a gift to you for Mother’s Day

In celebration of Mother’s Day I wanted to share my favorite film of Pangea Day, which if you were not able to tune in was one of the most amazing film festival experiences I have ever encountered. Shout out to Current TV for helping make it happen and for airing the 4 hours of extremely moving shorts. I watched the festival with best friends visiting from NYC for the weekend and we laughed, cried, cried some more and discussed some of the universal commonalities we all share. Watching the films collectively, live, while millions watched in over 100 countries was powerful.

As a mother of a two year old son, Lucas, I especially appreciated the film, The Ball which is about children in Mozambique who have found an interesting way to make a football. Click above to watch this amazing film about the power of the desire to “play.”

The perfect Tuesday night in New York City

La Esquina NYC Tuesday nights

Most New Yorkers in their late thirties long for the nights where you could hop the train, head downtown and spend an authentic sweaty weekday evening on a dance floor, dreaming, dancing and celebrating life without a worry in the world. Some of my favorite raw and true “never fail me spots” were “Sticky Mikes Frog Bar,” located in the basement of Time Café and Soul Kitchen. Sixteen years later, you really have to search high and low for a truly unique, smart and soulful spot in NYC. And last week, I had the pleasure of finding one – La Esquina.

I had left Miami for two days of fund in NYC in celebration of a very good friend’s 49th birthday. Last Tuesday, on his birthday, I enjoyed a multi-sensory evening of real Mexican food, controversial discourse, music and meaningful connections with new friends I had actually met for the first time during that magical night.

What makes La Esquina so Provocative is it’s an exclusive creatives mostly restaurant.
