Pictures are pretty, but it’s memories that matter

Pool in Puerto Rico

I don’t know how it happened, but I recently lost my camera on my return from a family vacation to Puerto Rico. I probably took a hundred pictures on that trip and I have literally been sick to my stomach, as you can imagine, over this loss. I smiled this morning, though, when I came across this photo I had taken on my iPhone.

There’s No Such Thing as Balance

Gina Ruda and her husband and son

Scratch the flowers, the baskets of soap and hand lotion, the potted plants. Let’s bring on the real love for all the working moms who work their hearts and butts off 365 days a year nurturing their two greatest passions—their life’s work and their children.

My gift to you this Mother’s Day Weekend is a completely inappropriate but dead-on reality check on motherhood, work, and balance. (And believe me, I know a thing or two about what works and what doesn’t—I am running a business, launching my first book this fall, raising a 5-year-old boy, and cook dinner every night for my family!)

48 Hours of Play in the Rose City

Gina Rudan and Kevin Carroll

It is really quite amazing when you decide to take on a city for all it’s got. I made this smart decision on a recent trip to Portland and must say, it was nothing shy of a “wow” business trip of play. Within 48 hours, I enjoyed unique quality time with one of my greatest inspirations, author and change agent, Kevin Carroll; lunch at the Nike campus; chocolate cake with a hot nutritionist and former fashion designer; bonding with an old friend and travel comrade, Katina; a great talk with 200 Latinas; and a to-die-for-foot massage. And yes, that all happened in two short days.

On the lawns of the White House

On the lawns of the white house

Yesterday I had the great honor and privilege to visit the grounds of the White House for a welcoming ceremony for his Excellency, Felipe, Calderon, and the President of Mexico.

When my best friend Katina invited me to venture to the White House with her for this event, I immediately envisioned an intimate breakfast of 100 Latinos enjoying huevos rancheros with a side of grits with the man who inspires me most, Mr. President Barak Obama and his amazing genius of a wife, Michelle.
